Here at Thé Dansdant we have never been too fond of orange and rusty yellows, the typical colours of the season. We like our Autumn palette different: put together some shades of faded pinks, greys, blues and greens for a soft, warm, cozy and feminine result. This is how we like to dress our home at this time of year.
How to easily adapt your home to the season? Pick a beautiful bouquet of flowers at the market, make a stack of books with covers in the right colours, make a still life with thrifted vases and twigs or pineapples of other things you found on your Sunday walk, cozy up your couch with some new pillows, but a pretty table cloth on your dining table. When you want to make more radical changes, it may be time to replace the curtains, paint an accent wall, buy a new carpet or ...
We like to keep things small and simple though. Often the most simple things can give you the most satisfaction!

Autumn is really catching up with us now, as the days are growing shorter, the air gets colder and the leaves are starting to fall. But - as you might already know - here at Thé Dansant, we try not to be all too sad about about. No, we embrace Autumn. For the colours it brings in the city-parks, for it's refreshing bike-rides trough windy streets; and it's hot chocolate's in cosy café's. Tea Tuesday

Strictly speaking, from where I'm writing we are already Wednesday, but well, all depends on where you are. So I guess I'm still sort of in time with this post ;)
This afternoon I had a very special cup of tea: it was the first cup I drank in our new, sort of finished kitchen. Since the photos were taken we fixed the water tap and the doors and drawers of the cabinets as well. I will show you more as work progresses!

Message Monday

Bonjour!

Today I went shopping at Hema. This is a Dutch shop where they have lots of pretty stuff for very small prices! Here you can find cute tableware, colourfull pillows, bathroom props, desk organizers etc. In short, this shop is worthy of a Message Monday - even when it was done on a Tuesday moring!

I hope you all had a pleasant beginning of the week. We'll be back later today for your afternoon tea ;)

I am still on my 'reasons to love Autumn' swing, and well, you can guess: but here is another reason to love Autumn! THE FALL/WINTER 2010 COLLECTION by J.Crew.
I love the eclectic mix, the wool and knits, the red flowers and the shorts! And I am madly in love with the coat from the first picture! I am mourning over the fact that they do not yet ship oversees. What a shame!

Hi there!

Today I accidentally bumped into to an utmost horrendous picture whilst strawling over the internet: The sight of Paris Hilton immitating Audrey Hepburn's look in Breakfast at Tiffany's! I was in shock! To imagine that this upstart, shallow-brained, spoiled little socialite, would think of herself comparable to Audrey Hepburn, goes far beyond my imagination...

So to get my hart beating at a normal pace again, I spoiled myself with a little Audrey-googling and a large cup of tea! Oh, isn't she just perfection? Elegant, classy, beautiful and funny!

To put the cherry on top of the cake, I think I'm going to rent Breakfast at Tiffany's tonight ;)

Embracing Autumn {part two}

Strangely the second day of Autumn (wich is today)was about the best day of Late Summer, so to say. August and September were really drab.
This summery day however didn't stop me from having Autumn dreams! I long for the moment when I can put on my gloves or mittens to go out, and wrap a large thick scarf around my shoulders. Knits are just one of my al time favorits to wear!

I was just enjoying your typical Tuesday evening, drinking tea and reading books about fashion! I could spend hours flipping trough the pages, admiring collections past... The book you can see on the photos is my newest acquisition. I found it in a second-hand-bookshop and it was such a bargain, I just had to buy it! It's all about Fashion in New York. It goes from the historical growth of fashion in the City, to the established designers, to emerging talent...

Now if you'll excuse, I've got a lot more reading to ;)

Bonjour mes chères filles!

Don't you dream of a vintage type writer like the one above for all your secret messages, and letters, short stories, ...??? We sure do!

We also dream of pretty neutral woolly knits, chilly mornings and autumn garden prettyness.
On our list of why we love autumn we can add the following:
1. shamelessly drinking hot coco and tea in disproportionate amounts,
2. staying inside where it's warm en cozy, getting up late and reading in bed without feeling any guilt,
3. making long walks in the fresh morning air and enjoying the pretties nature got to offer, and curling up on the sofa afterwards with one more cup of coco and a good read.

Yes, we spoil ourselves rotten! You should too! It's refreshing :)

Fashion on Sunday

Red and I have a love/hate relationship.
Red can easily look trashy, it's hard to combine with other colours and it can point up blemishes or redness in your face.
On the other hand...
Red is very versatile. It can look classy (think Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick and Red Birkin Bag) or Rock 'n Roll. But most of all red is dangerously sexy....

Yes, I do believe red is making a come-back! And I have to say that it were Isabel Marant's capri-pants that convinced me to but red back on the map! Wich is exactely why I just had to buy a pair of look-a-likes at Zara this Saturday ;)

Dinner Stories

Bonsoir tout le monde!

I don't know much about the Japanese culture (well, except what I learned from watching Shogun when I was a kid and I know that can't be much), but what I do know is that we ought to be gratefull for their exellent cooking skills, cause boy oh boy do they know how to work fish and rice! Sushi is one of those precious (whereas rather expensive) things I like to treat myself with!

How about you? Do you care for some poisson cru from time to time? Or do you prefer your fish battered and fried with some greasy chips and mashed peas to go? ;)

Today I have put myself to an excercise. Usually I am in mourning of Summer being over until Spring. I know that Summer isn't oficially over yetm but it sure feels like it is. The wind is howling and raindrops slide down slowly from the window.
Now, instead of sobbing about it, I want to find the good things about Autumn. It surely has good things too?!
*thinks*
That beautiful cold blue light for example, that is one of the things I love about Autumn.

Message Monday

Bonsoir!

This weekend I had a lovely lunch with my bf, at 'Pain Perdu' after visiting 'SMAK', the Museum of Modern Arts of Ghent. Pain Perdu is a delicous place for a healthy breakfast, brunch and lunch. They use a lot of fresh and organic ingredients. All of this you can enjoy in a gorgeous decor with lots of wood and old furniture or if the weather allows it, on a little terrace.

Afterwards we strolled around the city, doing a bit of second-hand bookshopping and enjoying the last squirts of sun... Oh, if only each day could be just like this!

But alas, reality kicks in again! Well at least here at TD we know how to take a bit of me-time when it is needed, meaning: everyday ;)

So have yourself a relaxing evening my dears, I will do the same!

Thurseday Travels

Here are some more lovely bits of our vacation. Switzerland isn't all cheese, lederhosen and edelweiss I tell you. It has amazingly beautiful places and things. Take the water in lakes, rivers and canals, it's as blue as the sky! The sun somehow seems always brighter there. The buildings are older. The colours are different. I'd go back there this very instant if I could!

I've got to admit I'm afwully tired from working in the house my boyfriend just bought for us! But when I see pictures of lovely interiors I know that all the hard work is totally worth it! Take these amazing dining areas for example. Oh, only to imagine that I'm going to have one just as pretty anytime soon! Isn't that what we do it all for?

Guten Tag meine liebe Mädchen!

We are back from Switzerland, with lovely photos and inspiration from our trip! One of our favourit discoveries when visiting Bern was this little flower shop, called "Sempervivum", in the Münstergasse. The shop was located in the basement of an old building. It was like a treasure cave filled with the prettiest flower arrangements (even flowers in teapots, our very favourite style)! When you ever visit Bern, keep your eyes open for this little gem. It is totally worth visiting.

We are also very happy and thankfull that at coming home Nany of Wolf and Willow let us know she featured our little shop on her wonderfull blog! Thanks Nancy!
